Nathan Aké had a pleasant basic debut at Manchester City on Monday. The 25-year-old defender took part in the entire game against Wolverhampton Wanderers, which was beaten 1-3.
Aké was the heart of the defense with John Stones and saw teammates Kevin De Bruyne (penalty kick) and Phil Foden score in the first half. After the break, Raúl Jiménez did something back, after which Gabriel Jesus determined the final score in extra time.
City last month deposited 45 million euros for Aké, which was acquired from Bournemouth. The former youth player of Feyenoord is the most expensive Dutchman ever after Virgil van Dijk, Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt.
The win over Wolverhampton means City are number seven in the Premier League behind Leicester City, Everton, Arsenal, Liverpool, Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur, all of whom have already played two games.
City’s next game is Thursday, when the top club plays at home against Bournemouth in the third round of the League Cup. Three days later, Leicester City comes to Manchester in competition.
Earlier on Monday evening, Aston Villa-Sheffield United finished 1-0. Ezri Konsa provided the winning goal. Sheffield played for a long time with ten men through a red card from John Egan and saw midfielder John Lundstram miss a penalty.
