1. The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Thursday, accepted the appointment as Chairman Council of Emir’s in Kano state but rejected a letter in circulation that he asked the governor to make specific clarifications on the appointment.
In a letter dated 19th December 20, 2019, and signed on behalf of Kano emirate council secretary, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, the acceptance of the position by the emir was categorically stated thus: “Kindly inform His Excellency that His Highness, Sarkin Kano, had not rejected his appointment as Chairman, Kano State Council of Chiefs. His Highness accepts the appointment.”
2. A Federal Capital Territory, High Court, FCT, sitting in Maitama, on Friday ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to detain Mohammed Adoke, former Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice for 14 days.
Justice Othman Musa held that Adoke should be held in custody pending investigation.
3. Theophilus Danjuma, former Defense Minister, has disclosed that Nigerians won’t sleep if he reveals what is happening in the country.
Danjuma, spoke at the University of Ibadan in Oyo State, on Thursday, Danjuma warned that Nigeria was “in a big hole, lamenting that leaders from the South West were afraid of speaking out against the Federal Government.
4. The Supreme Court on Friday, voided the candidature of Uche Nwosu as governorship flag bearer of the Action Alliance (AA) in the 2019 general elections in Imo, over double nomination.
The apex court, in its judgment delivered by Justice Adamu Augie, upheld the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division.
5. Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Friday declared that his government will soon begin to arrest and prosecute alcoholic dealers and consumers of illicit drugs in all its motor parks across the state.
He said the transport committee would put necessary measures in place to curb sales of alcohol in all the motor parks across the state, attributing its consumption by drivers to one of the factors responsible for accidents on the highways.
6. The Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Pauline Tallen, has said the Sex Offender Register will be fully implemented to protect girls and women from sexual abuse.
Tallen gave this assurance when she took a tour of The National Centre for Women Development (NCWD), on Friday, in Abuja.
The minister, who decried the rising cases of women abuse in the country, also held an interactive session with members of staff of the centre.
7. The closure of Nigerian land borders has ended the smuggling of 70 trucks of petrol across the Adamawa international borderline daily.
The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), which stated this, said the quantity of petrol coming to Adamawa State has dropped from 100 trucks per day to about 30.
8. Tunde Balogun, Chairman, Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says the defection of bigwigs from opposition parties to the ruling party in the state is a measure of the growing confidence in APC.
Balagun made the statement on Thursday in Ikeja while formally receiving defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition parties in the state into APC.
9. The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ekiti State has accused ex-governor Ayodele Fayose of selling the party secretariat to himself by proxy.
The PDP also threatened to sue Fayose, adding that the secretariat which was a collective property of the party members, was allegedly sold by the ex-governor to one of his cronies without the knowledge of the State Working Committee (SWC).
10. The State Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has suspended the State Secretary of the Party, Hon Emma Tuang, for insubordination.
This development was made public by the party’s governorship candidate in the State, Gen. Jeremiah Useni (Rtd) on Thursday while briefing journalists after the SEC meeting held at the party Secretariat in Jos
