LONG LIVE BUHARI, SHORT LIVE APC

BUHARI

Speakersden takes a look at the holier than thou attitude of President Muhammadu Buhari and how this behaviour will eventually kill APC before or after 2023.

Our President was 77 on Wednesday, December 18. May he live longer and healthier, that is my wish for him even though he has failed to meet my expectations in some areas of our development.
President Muhammdu Buhari will be 81 by the time he leaves office in 2023 and I do not have any doubt that the All Progressives Congress, the party that brought him to power would have disintegrated.

By 2022, the president will not be able to handle the pressure again because he would be rounding off to retire from politics. He would have achieved all that he wanted at the time.

I am so sure because Buhari will not have anointed candidate that can succeed him like his predecessor, Olusegun Obasanjo had done when they imposed former President Goodluck Jonathan on Nigeria.

Not that Buhari will not want to but he lacks the capacity to do so. Since he assumed office in 2015, President Buhari has not built a single leader that Nigerians can point to as a better replacement in the APC.

I cannot point to anybody within Buhari’s cabinet or administration that has got the charisma to lead the way after 2023. The President has failed 100 per cent in this area and this is where leaders like the former Governor of Lagos State and the national leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is far better than Buhari.

Tinubu, like many other Nigerian leaders, is not a saint but one will not be sincere to turn a blind to his gift of identifying new leaders. His role in APC has made the party stay till today otherwise, people like the former President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki and the former Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara were ready to crash the APC as they did for the Peoples Democratic Party.

It is unfortunate that President Buhari could say that he would not allow anybody to use his name while contesting for the 2023 presidential election. Such a statement is a low-down in that it only reflects the distrust the president has for his disciples.

Does it mean it is only the president that is a saint and no other person within APC can vie for the presidency and ride on the integrity of the president to canvass for votes? The president has just told the nation that he will stand aloof as soon as he finishes his tenure.

Of course, that is what his statement implies. It signals an end to APC and those who may be aspiring on this platform. The president also said that he would love a stronger APC after his tenure, I doubt it. You cannot have your cake and eat it.

The president has the best of opportunity now to create a path of integrity for the party instead of himself alone. This holier than thou attitude of Mr. President cannot help APC, rather it will kill it.
