The Nigeria's minister for interior, Rauf Aregbosola has been summoned by the senate on Tuesday regarding government's choice to grant visas to African nationals.
The Senators await Aregbesola and the General of Nigerian Immigration Service, Muhammed Babandede. They decided to call on them regarding the policy which did not pass through the normal procedure. Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi said it is highly unfit for the officers to implement any policy without legislative processing.
The President made it known on Thursday, December 12 that the country will start to issue visa to carriers of African countries passports as from January 2020. He also said in Egypt during ASWAN Forum that Nigeria will maintain free movement of any Africans within Africa.
Immediately the announcement was made, people starts to criticised the policy by saying it's part the President decision to "Islamised" Nigeria and open the nation to insecurity.
One of the Nigeria Immigration officer, who is the spokesman of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mr Sunday James pointed out that the government issuing of visa on arrival should not be a threat for ethnical threat or religious grounds victimization in the country. He later said that the policy is part o government’s endeavor to boost free movement and lower the barriers of free movement within African continent at large.
