The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and the gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, on Monday, held a closed meeting over plans to form a political alliance that would strengthen the governor’s grip of politics in the state.
The meeting, according to information at the disposal of Tribune Online, was at the instance of Abiodun and had in attendance top leaders of The Believe Movement (TBM), a political movement of Isiaka.
It will be recalled that Abiodun and Isiaka met some weeks back with speculations rife that the ADC flagbearer may be considering joining the APC.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting Isiaka said his group was proud of the performance of the Abiodun-led administration in the last five months, adding that the group has total confidence in the government’s bid to build a better future for Ogun people.
Isiaka said there were signs of a positive relationship between the State Chapter of the APC and the Believe Movement, adding that he would need to report back to his teeming supporters before making any formal announcement.
He assured that an alliance between the two groups would bear positive results and take the gateway state to greater heights.
“I have come with the leadership of my political structure all across the state. It is to signify the fact that we are very confident and happy with the way the government is going about putting the state on a higher pedestal and which aligns with our own values.
“From what we have seen in five months, I believe the governor is on the right path. If we had not seen positive signs, we would have never thought of graduating our relationship with this administration” he noted.
“We have come to interact with the governor. The governor has spoken very well. We have interacted and exchanged ideas. We have exhibited our intent to move our relationship forward politically and we have also spoken on all areas that needed to be touched in making the union feasible.
“We had interaction with our people all across the state and they mandated the number of people here today to come and talk to the governor on all the areas they so desire clarifications on. We will get back to our people and within the next couple of days, a final decision would be made known to the public.
“I can assure you that positive things between the relationship of the Believe movement and the APC will happen soon,” he said.
Reliable sources within the meeting, however, quoted Governor Abiodun to have expressed great satisfaction with the development.
While addressing the group, the governor said “Isiaka displayed great sportsmanship in the last election” describing him as a “man of integrity and character.”
Abiodun commended the ADC stalwart for resisting offers to collaborate with the Allied People’s Movement (APM) or the Ladi Adebutu faction of the PDP in the last election, noting that this singular act was crucial to his own eventual victory at the polls.
The governor said, “I am very comfortable with this group, I want to work with you and I am reiterating my commitment to an inclusive government.”
