The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday said it found it unnecessary to call witnesses in the defence of the petition by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate in the February 23 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar.
Counsel to the Commission, Yunus Usman (SAN) made the assertion at the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) at the resumption of proceeding on Monday.
Atiku and PDP are challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Respondents in the petition are Buhari, APC and INEC.
By the court’s schedule, INEC was expected to open its defence today, but when the case was called, Usman said they have scrutinized the evidence by witnesses called by the petitioners and found that there was no need for it.
