Shakira’s publicist issues a statement on Gerard Pique ‘split’

It’s been a rough few weeks for Barcelona defender Gerard Pique.

Pique positioned himself as a target of hate after he spoke out in favour of the Catalan referendum in Spain.

That went down badly with many Spain fans, who have proceeded to boo the Barcelona star at training and on the pitch.

Pique has threatened to quit the national team, however that doesn’t seem likely before the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

At the same time, Pique’s private life has also been a hot topic during the international break.

Last Thursday rumours broke in both the Spanish and Colombian media that Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has split from pop star Shakira.

Speculation about a split has been rife since June, when Pique and Shakira were last seen in public together.

This was at Leo Messi’s wedding to Antonella Roccuzzo in Rosario, Argentina.

Gerard Pique and Shakira have two children together: Milan, 4, and Sasha, 2.

Shakira’s publicist issues a statement

But it appears that split rumours were lies.

That’s according to Shakira’s publicist, who has issued a statement to HOLA magazine:

Shakira and Gerard Piqué’s relationship is still going strong. “Everything is the same,” the singer’s publicist confirmed to HOLA! in response to the recent reports that pair have ended their relationship.

The publicist confirmed that the claims are “only rumors ” from people “who want to harm Pique.”
